Ventilation Performance Assessment — Federal Law Enforcement Facility

Scope

Full ventilation performance review and airflow testing for a high-use indoor range serving a federal law enforcement agency. The facility had been experiencing air quality complaints from range users.

Work Performed

  • Conducted comprehensive airflow testing and ventilation performance measurements throughout the range
  • Identified deficiencies in air supply and exhaust balance contributing to lead-laden air recirculation
  • Reviewed existing HVAC specifications against current indoor range ventilation standards
  • Developed detailed technical recommendations and specifications for remediation
  • Provided oversight during corrective work and conducted post-remediation verification testing

Outcome

Ventilation system brought into full compliance with applicable standards. Air quality complaints resolved. Range returned to full operational status.

Lead Exposure Assessment & Return-to-Service — Provincial Police Range

Scope

Following a routine inspection that identified elevated lead surface contamination, the range was taken out of service. Range Consulting was engaged to assess the extent of contamination and develop a return-to-service plan.

Work Performed

  • Conducted surface wipe sampling and bulk material sampling throughout the range and support areas
  • Assessed lead exposure risk for range users and maintenance personnel
  • Developed a lead contamination control and cleaning protocol tailored to the facility
  • Prepared OHS compliance documentation and worker protection procedures
  • Coordinated with the client's health and safety team through remediation and clearance testing

Outcome

Range cleared for return to service following successful remediation. Client received a complete OHS compliance package for ongoing lead management.

Technical Design Review — New Indoor Range Construction

Technical Design Review — New Indoor Range Construction

Scope

A law enforcement agency engaged Range Consulting to conduct an independent technical review of design documents for a new indoor range facility prior to tendering, to identify deficiencies before construction began.

Work Performed

  • Reviewed architectural and mechanical drawings against current indoor range design standards
  • Assessed ballistic containment design, backstop specifications, and bullet trap selection
  • Evaluated ventilation system design for compliance with NIOSH and applicable Canadian standards
  • Identified 14 technical deficiencies and prepared a formal review report with recommended corrections
  • Provided follow-up review of revised drawings to confirm deficiencies had been addressed

Outcome

All identified deficiencies corrected prior to tender. Client avoided costly change orders and potential compliance failures during construction.

Scope

A federal government department engaged Range Consulting to conduct OHS compliance assessments across a portfolio of indoor ranges at multiple locations, establishing a baseline for a national range improvement program.

Work Performed

  • Conducted on-site assessments at facilities across multiple provinces
  • Evaluated each facility against federal OHS regulations and indoor range safety standards
  • Assessed ventilation performance, lead management practices, and ballistic containment at each site
  • Prepared individual facility reports and a consolidated national summary with prioritized recommendations
  • Presented findings to departmental safety leadership and supported development of the improvement program

Outcome

Client received a clear, prioritized roadmap for bringing all facilities into compliance. Program subsequently used to secure capital funding for range improvements.
